چکیده
Abstract This work investigates the machinability characteristics of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V titanium alloy workpieces in finishing machining using ball end mills on 45° inclined surfaces. The surface finish results were compared with ones from milling trials wrought samples same cutting conditions. Optical profilometry and scanning electron microscope imaging used to compare different texture quality two alloys, as well chip morphology, aim finding a correlation between obtained at varying parameters peculiar microstructure induced by additive manufacturing process. showed that allowed for better respect one. was attributed interactions mill edge α phase colonies such alloy, which may favor material removal locally lowering resistance cutting.

متن کاملSurface topography in ball end milling process: Description of a 3D surface roughness parameter
In the field of free-form machining, CAM software offers various modes of tool-path generation, depending on the geometry of the surface to be machined. Manufactured surface quality results from the choice of machining strategy and machining parameters. The objective of this paper is to provide a 3D surface roughness parameter that formalizes the relative influence of both machining parameters ...
متن کاملAn Instantaneous Rigid Force Model For 3-Axis Ball-End Milling Of Sculptured Surfaces
An instantaneous rigid force model for prediction of cutting forces in ball-end milling of sculptured surfaces is presented in this paper. A commercially available geometric engine is used to represent the cutting edge, cutter and updated part geometries. The cutter used in this work is an insert type ball-end mill. Intersecting an inclined plane with the cutter ball nose generates the cutting...
متن کاملAnalysis of Chatter in Ball End Milling by Wavelet Transform
The chatter is one of the major limitations of the productivity in the ball end milling process. It affects the surface roughness, the dimensional accuracy and the tool life. The aim of this research is to propose the new system to detect the chatter during the ball end milling process by using the wavelet transform. The proposed method is implemented on the 5-axis CNC machining center and the ...
متن کاملSurface roughness monitoring application based on artificial neural networks for ball-end milling operations
Surface roughness plays an important role in the performance of a finished part. The roughness is usuallymeasured off-line when the part is already machined, although in recent years the trend seems to have been to focus on online monitoring. Measuring and controlling the machining process is now possible thanks to improvements and advances in the fields of computers and sensors. The aim of thi...
